By Jesse Muñoz/COC Sports Information Director
College of the Canyons student-athletes Milca Osorio (track & field) and Kieran Bye (men's golf) have been named the COC Athletic Department's Women's & Men's Student-Athletes of the Week for the period running May 9-16.
Osorio and Bye are the 13th, and final, set of honorees for the spring 2022 semester.
Milca Osorio / Track & Field
Osorio is the first two-time Student-Athlete of the Week award winner, having previously won the AOTW designation in mid-March.
The freshman continues to perform at a high level having advanced all the way to the CCCAA Track & Field State Championships in both the 5000m and 10,000m distance events.
Her run at the CCCAA Southern California Championships on May 13 included a time of 18:58.01 in the 5,000m, which placed her third. Osorio had previously qualified for the state championship meet in the 10,000m at a time of 39:39.29, good for fifth place, at the SoCal Prelims event on May 6. Both times represented personal bests for Osorio.
She will next compete at the CCCAA Track & Field State Championships hosted by Mt. San Antonio College May 20-21.
Kieran Bye/ Men's Golf
Bye was the Cougars' top scorer on a day in which COC claimed the 2022 CCCAA State Championship, its second in a row and state-record 10th in program history.
The freshman from Bath, England carded a 36-hole score of 141 (71/70) to finish three-under-par on the day. That performance placed Bye third in the field of 56 golfers from across the state.
As a result, Bye was named to the CCCAA All-State Team.
