College of the Canyons student-athletes Jazlene Herreres (women's cross country) and Alejandro Cueto (men's cross country) have been named the Jersey Mike's COC Athletic Department's Women's & Men's Student-Athletes of the Week for the period running Oct. 20-25. Herreres and Cueto are the ninth set of honorees for the 2025 fall semester.
Jazlene Herreres / Women's Cross Country
Herreres placed 13th in the field of nearly 70 runners to help Canyons finish second in the team standings at the Western State Conference (WSC) Championships at Arroyo Vista Park in Moorpark on Oct. 24.
The freshman from Canyon High School finished the 5K course at 20:37.8 to represent the No. 2 position for the Cougars.
That effort earned Herreres, who was one of four COC runners to finish in the field's top-16, recognition as an All-WSC First-Team honoree.
Herreres and the Cougars will next run at the 3C2A Southern California Regional Championships on Friday, Nov. 7, in San Diego.
Alejandro Cueto / Men's Cross Country
Cueto needed just 21:04.2 to complete the four-mile course at Arroyo Vista Park in Moorpark during last week's WSC Championships.
That time ranked the Hart High School product seventh in the field of 105 runners. Cueto's pace also represented the No. 2 time for the Cougars.
The freshman was named an All-WSC First-Team selection based on his results at the conference championships.
As a team, Canyons finished sixth in the field of 12 competing programs while advancing to the 3C2A Southern California Championships next month at Liberty Station in San Diego.
