BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The College of the Canyons team had just seven hits in a 13-0 conference loss to the Bakersfield College Renegades, on Friday night at Gerry Collis Field. With the loss, the Cougars fall to 4-6 overall and 1-2 in conference play.
Starting COC pitcher Icezack Flemming gave up seven runs, five earned, in the first three innings of the game. The Renegades added five more runs, three earned, in the sixth inning, with pitcher Michael Garcia on the mound, to put the game out of reach.
Shortstop Justin Russell went 2-for-2, with a double. Designated hitter Daniel Lee collected two of the Cougars' seven hits, as he finished the night 2-for-4. College of the Canyons used a total of five pitchers in the game, whom combined to give up 13 runs (nine earned) on 19 hits with three walks and nine strikeouts.
Canyons returns to Western State Conference, South Division, action on Saturday afternoon with game against the Glendale College Vaqueros. First pitch for game one of the series is scheduled for noon, in Glendale.
