Ramos’ Walk-Off Hit Helps Cougars Past Citrus

SANTA CLARITA, Calif. – College of the Canyons first baseman Roberto Ramos blasted a walk off single in the bottom of the 13th inning of Saturday's conference match up with Citrus College, to lead the Cougars to a 3-2 victory at Cougar Field.
Ramos went 4-of-7 with a game-high two RBIs, including the game-winning RBI helping the Cougars improve to 3-0 in conference play and keep the squad's three-game winning streak alive.
The Owls got on the scoreboard first, plating a run in the top of the first. Canyons answered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the second to take a 2-1 lead. Ramos singled to left field, which scored Nicholas Vigo, who was hit by a pitch earlier in the inning. The following batter Dylan Freyre hit a sac bunt that brought Jose Haros across the plate.
Citrus tied the game up, 2-2, earning a run in the top of the second after a RBI single from the Owls.
The scoring was halted after the second and it wasn't until the top of the 10th inning that the Owls threatened to score. After loading the bases with one out, Ryan Paramo was replaced on the mound with Timothy Han. Han responded with a strike out for the second out and his defense took care of the third out after a fly ball to left field.
In the bottom of the 13th inning, Austin Cole reached first on a fielder's choice before stealing second and third, putting him in a position to score. Vigo garnered a walk and added another steal to advance to second base, before David Oppenheim was awarded a base for being hit by a pitch.
With bases loaded Ramos hit a single in the infield and was nearly tagged out, but was called safe by the umpire.
Canyons finished the day with 13 hits against Citrus, including Ramos' four and JD Krauskopf's three.
Han threw the final 3.2 innings for the Cougars and earned his first collegiate win. Starter Chad Bennett had four strike outs and gave up two runs on four hits. Paramo went 3.1 innings and struck out three while giving up three hits.
The Cougars will travel to L.A. Valley on Tuesday, March 11 for a 2:30 p.m. game.
