Bats Struggle In Loss To Citrus

SANTA CLARITA, Calif. – The College of the Canyons baseball team was shutout of Tuesday's contest, 9-0, against visiting Citrus College. With the loss, Canyons drops to 13-12-1 overall and 9-4 in conference.

Canyons starter Tim Han (1-3) took the loss after surrendering four runs on seven hits. Alberto Flores threw 1.1 innings, allowing two earned runs on no hits. Armando Esparza tossed one inning, giving up two runs and Julien Garcia and Eric Hegadoren combined for the last inning, allowing only one hit.

For the third time this season, the Cougars were shutout by its opponent and saw the loss drop them into third place in the conference standings. The four hits came from four different players – Nick Vigo, David Oppenheim, Dylan Freyre and Austin Cole.

The Cougars threatened to score in the bottom of the fourth, but left three runners on base. Jose Haros started the inning by garnering a walk, followed by an Oppenheim single to right field. Two batters later, Chris Devery was walked as well, to load the bases with two outs, but Andru Cardenas struckout, stranding the runners.

The Cougars will host LA Valley College on Thursday, April 3 for a 2:30 p.m. game.
