Canyons Falls 9-7 to L.A. Mission
The Cougars score four late runs to draw within one, but can't pull off the comeback.
The COC baseball team dropped a close one 9-7 to host L.A. Mission on Tuesday, as the Cougars were unable to complete their comeback attempt despite drawing to within a run late in the contest.
Canyons (17-14, 9-7) scored four unanswered runs in the top of the seventh inning to move within striking distance. However, the Eagles were able to close out the game after getting an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth and holding on for the last frame.
The Cougars took a three-run lead in the top of the third inning with a 3-run home run by center fielder Tyler Ryan.
But the Eagles answered quickly with four runs of their own in the home half of the third inning, then came back to add four more runs in the fourth.
Canyons did its best to stay in the game, adding runs in the fifth and sixth inning on an RBI single from Jassen Oliver and an RBI double from Jose Haros.
COC catcher Jake Ryan would slug a two-run home run of his own in the top of the seventh to close out the scoring for Canyons.
All but one member of head coach Chris Cota's finished the game with a hit, including left fielder Cole Mears who finished 3-for-5 with a run scored.
COC pitcher Collin Dudley took the loss after surrendering eight runs, seven earned, in four innings of work. The Eagles were also able to record three home runs off of Dudley.
Canyons will return home to host L.A. Mission at 2:30 p.m. Thursday April 16, at Cougar Field.
