Canyons Loses 8-4 to Bakersfield to Drop Fourth Straight Game
The College of the Canyons baseball team could not hang on to a two-run lead and as a result lost its fourth straight conference game, this time falling to Bakersfield College 8-4 at Cougar Field on Saturday afternoon.
The Cougars led the game 4-2 entering the top of the eighth inning, but could not withstand a Bakersfield attack that resulted in a five-run inning for the Renegades. Unfortunately for COC reliever Jesse Posey, he would bear the brunt of it.
Posey entered in the eighth in relief of starter Cy Scott and allowed five consecutive hits and a walk before Zach Hanks replaced him. All five runs in the inning were charged to Posey.
The Cougars found themselves down 7-4 after the inning and could not bounce back.
Scott's efforts unraveled as a result of the big Bakersfield inning. Scott pitched seven innings while scattering seven hits, striking out three batters and allowing two runs in the no-decision.
COC shortstop Jose Haros was productive at the plate going 1-for-4 while scoring two runs, earning a walk and driving in two runs. Haros now has 26 RBIs on the year.
The loss drops Canyons to 17-16 overall and to 9-9 in Western State Conference. South Division play with three games remaining in the regular season.
The Cougars will look to exact some revenge when they head to Bakersfield for a rematch against the Renegades at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 21.
