Canyons Gets 7-3 Conference Road Win at Glendale College
Sophomore JC Cloney tosses a complete game while striking out six batters in his final start as a Cougar.
GLENDALE, Calif. — A four-run first inning jump-started the College of the Canyons lineup, resulting in a 7-3-road victory against Glendale College on Thursday.
COC starting pitcher JC Cloney provided a solid pitching performance to keep the Vaquero bats at bay.
Cloney tossed a complete game on his way to a team-leading seventh victory of the season. He scattered seven hits, allowed two walks, three runs and struck out six batters over the nine innings of work.
Over Cloney's last six appearances, the sophomore lefty has posted a 2.17 ERA, with 39 strikeouts and a 5-1 record.
The Cougars piled on the runs early and didn't look back. RBI doubles by Jose Haros and Jassen Oliver led the way for the Cougars in the first inning. Chris Devery added a run via a sacrifice fly.
Haros finished the game going 1-for-5 with an RBI and now has 27 RBIs on the season.
In the top of the second, Dylan Freyre doubled to score Colton Burns from first base to give the Cougars a 5-0 lead after two innings.
Freyre finished the game going 2-for-5 with an RBI, including a double. The infielder now has 24 RBIs on the season and has a .330 batting average in 27 games played.
Burns had a big game from the leadoff spot going 3-for-5 while scoring two runs. He is currently third on the team in runs scored with 25.
Glendale would score runs in the fifth and seventh innings, but COC head coach Chris Cota's club added two more runs in the top of the seventh to round out scoring for the game and wrap up the 7-3 victory.
The win brings COC's overall record to 19-17 and 11-8 against Western State Conference, South Division opponents.
The Cougars meet Glendale again on Friday at Cougar Field in the final game of the regular season. First pitch is at 2:30 p.m.
