Canyons Concludes Season with 8-6 Loss to Glendale

The College of the Canyons baseball team ended its season on Friday, losing 8-6 to Glendale College at Cougar Field.
The loss ends a conference schedule that saw the Cougars open with five straight victories only to finish with an 11-10 conference record.
The Cougars found themselves down 4-0 in the fifth inning, but were able to respond in the home half of the inning.
Colton Burns' single to right field drove in Jake Ryan and Jassen Oliver to cut the deficit to 4-2. Two batters later, Dylan Freyre singled up the middle to score Burns to make it 4-3 entering the sixth inning.
In the eighth, Glendale rallied to score four more runs to build their lead to 8-3.
COC attempted a comeback in the bottom of the inning by scoring three runs to cut into the Glendale lead.
With the bases loaded, Burns was credited with an RBI after being hit by a pitch scoring Tyler Ryan. Jose Haros then drove in two runs with a single scoring Griffin Scott and Jake Ryan.
The Cougars trailed 8-6, but couldn't make a final push in the bottom of the ninth inning.
Burns ended the game going 2-for-4 with a run scored and three RBIs. The leadoff hitter ended the season with 26 runs scored, 15 RBIs, and team-leading .362 batting and .472 on-base percentages.
Haros finished the season going 2-for-4 with two RBIs. He finished the season with 29 RBIs, a .320 batting average and a .480 slugging percentage.
Roy Verdejo, the team's leading home run (7) and RBI (37) man, finished the game going 1-for-5. His .357 batting average was second on the team behind Burns.
COC head coach Chris Cota's club finished in fifth place with an 11-10 record in the Western State Conference, South Division.
