College of the Canyons defeated visiting Rio Hondo College 10-5 on Tuesday, pounding out 13 hits and scoring a season-high 10 runs to record back-to-back wins for the first time this season.
The Cougars (3-2) plated runs in each of the first five innings and had four players record multi-hit games, including right-fielder Eddie Rodriguez who finished the game 3-for-4 with four RBIs.
In the second it was Rodriguez driving home two more with an RBI-single to make it 4-1. An unearned run by the Cougars in the third put the game at 5-1 before Rodriguez singled in Trace Eldridge for a comfortable 6-1 advantage.
Elridge ended the day 2-for-5 with an RBI and run scored.
COC starter Eric Little (1-0) pitched well with the lead, scattering nine hits over fine innings of work to get the win. He was charged with two earned runs and struck out three batters.
Ivan Lomeli and Senituli Taufahema added to the assault with RBI base knocks in the fifth that kept the Cougars in front 8-2. Lomeli and Taufahema were both 2-for-3 in the game, with Lomeli also adding three runs.
COC closer Connor Dreyer was eventually called in to pitch the final six outs, allowing one hit and striking out two batters along the way.
Rio Hondo starter Jake Gaudet (0-1) lasted just five outs and allowed four earned runs on six hits and a walk. The Roadrunners used six relievers to get through the game.
