CULVER CITY — College of the Canyons maintained an early lead vs. host West L.A. College, eventually winning 5-0 to tack on another conference win and take its second game of the series.

The Cougars (13-13, 7-4) managed to put up five runs while keeping West L.A. (5-20, 2-9) at bay, offering the Wildcats no chance to take the lead.

COC freshman Brandon Whiting picked up his second win of the season from the mound after allowing only five hits and four walks with one strikeout. Whiting gave up no runs in his six innings pitched before handing the game over to Xavier Stoker.

Stoker kept the same energy to close out the ball game, allowing no runs with two hits, one walk and one strikeout.

Canyons took the early lead in the first inning when Andy Ambriz singled creating opportunity for both Mikey and Doyle Kane to cross home plate.

With Ryan Camacho on base, Mikey Kane doubled that lead in the second inning after sending the ball over the fence for his second home run of the series and sixth on the season. Mikey Kane is leading his team with a batting average of .371.

The score remained at 4-0 until the ninth inning when Alex Ballesteros' sac-fly, brought Rowan Teran home for a final 5-0 ball game.
