Yeaman Drives in Five, Canyons Downs Cerro Coso 13-7

By Jesse Muñoz/COC Sports Information Director

Under cloudy skies and intermittent rain, College of the Canyons starter Gavino Rosales won his third straight start and shortstop Colin Yeaman drove in five runs, helping the Cougars to a 13-7 victory over visiting Cerro Coso on Wednesday.

Canyons (7-2) had lost back-to-back games vs. Santa Ana College before Wednesday's bounce-back win. The Cougs continue to score runs in bunches, with 10 or more runs in each of the team's last four victories.

Yeaman's big day at the plate helped COC continue that trend. The freshman's two-run single in the third inning gave the home team a 4-0 advantage.

In the fourth Cerro Coso, which was making a return trip to Cougar Field after last visiting in the 2022 CCCAA SoCal Regionals, cut that lead in half with a two-run home run off the bat of Jordan Boman.

The Cougars responded in a four-run fourth inning that saw Charlie Rocca bring home two runs and then later score on a passed ball that got behind the Cerro Coso catcher and pushed the lead to 8-2.

A two-run home run from Alex Sepulveda in the sixth and three-run bomb from Yeaman in the seventh put Canyons in clear control at 13-3.

The Coyotes managed to score four runs off the COC bullpen but couldn't get any closer than the 13-7 final.

Rosales (3-0) remained unbeaten in his four starts. He allowed three runs, two earned, on four hits while striking out six.

On the other side it was Nile Hesson (0-2) taking the loss after three rough innings on the hill. He allowed eight runs, six earned, on five hits and a walk while striking out three.

The two teams combined to commit six errors in the game, with four charged to the Cougars. Canyons also stole three bags in the game
