Cougars Hold College of the Desert Scoreless
The College of the Canyons defense racked up four interceptions and garnered 322 yards of offense as the football team posted a 17-0 win over the College of the Desert in the Cougar’s season home opener at Cougar Stadium.
SANTA CLARITA, Calif. – The College of the Canyons defense racked up four interceptions and garnered 322 yards of offense as the football team posted a 17-0 win over the College of the Desert in the Cougar's season home opener at Cougar Stadium. With the win, COC improved to 2-1 on the season, while Desert dropped to 0-3 on the year.
Sophomore wide receiver Kwasi Washington had five catches for 84 yards and a touchdown, while sophomore running back Matt Bowen had 23 carries for 74 yards and a score. Freshman quarterback Tony Dawson went 7-for-12 for 90 yards and a touchdown and Jake Dashnaw went 10-of-18 for 103 yards.
The defense held the Roadrunners to 185 yards of offense, while recording four interceptions, including two from sophomore corner Anthony Adams. Canyons has posted at least three turnovers in each of its games this season.
College of the Canyons opened up its scoring at the start of the second quarter. The Cougars used 14 plays to move 59 yards down the field, which was capped off by a Bowen one-yard carry into the end zone, to make it 7-0 COC.
COC would get up on the scoreboard again late in the second half on an 18-yard field goal from freshman kicker Eric Kreitz.
After forcing the Roadrunners to punt to start the fourth quarter, the Cougars marched 97 yards in 10 plays, capping the drive with a 29-yard pass from Dawson to Washington, to make the score 17-0.
