This week all first responders — Fire Department, EMT, Sheriff's Dept., Police, Highway Patrol etc. — are invited to attend Saturday's game free of charge (with valid I.D.).

General admission tickets to all Cougar football games are $10. COC students/staff (with I.D.) and kids 10 and under are free.

Canyons (2-0) comes into the game on the heels of 47-14 road win over Grossmont College last Saturday. The Cougars finished the night with 510 yards of total offense thanks in large part to a lethal aerial attack.

COC sophomore quarterback Andrew Brito connected with six different receivers to the tune of 368 yards and three scoring strikes. The bulk of those yards went to the receiving tandem of Jarrin Pierce (seven catches, 170 yards, touchdown) and Brandon Pierce (five catches, 91 yards, touchdown) who gave the Grossmont secondary fits all day.

COC freshman Tariq Speights led the Cougar defense with 11 total tackles, and also added a forced fumble and interception to his stat line.

Santa Barbara (1-1) suffered a 35-13 home loss to San Bernardino Valley College in week two.

The Vaqueros held a 13-10 lead heading into halftime, but were shutout in the second half. SBCC sophomore linebacker Lucas Olgiati recorded eight tackles, forced a fumble and returned an interception for a touchdown to provide a bright spot for the Vaqueros.

COC is currently the No. 6 ranked team in the state according to the most recent California Community College Sports Information Association (CCCSIA) Poll. The Cougars are also ranked No. 8 in the JC Athletic Bureau Head Coaches Poll. SBCC is currently unranked.

Saturday's matchup is a non-conference contest. The Vaqueros are representing the Southern Califronia Football Association (SCFA) American Division, Pacific League. The Cougars hail from the SCFA National Division, Northern League.

Canyons and SBCC last met during the 2009 season, with the Vaqueros coming away with a 17-14 home victory.
