No. 4 Canyons to Host Golden West in Week Five Matchup

College of the Canyons will host its second home game of the 2018 season as the Cougars square off against Golden West College at 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 29, at Cougar Stadium.

Canyons (4-0) has shown its brilliance on both sides of the ball this season with an offensive attack that ranks eighth in the state at more than 480 yards per game and a stout defense that has recorded 15 turnovers while surrendering just 30 points on the season for a state-best mark of 7.5 points per game. The Cougars recorded another convincing victory in last week's 28-10 road win over Cerritos College.

Golden West (2-2) has won back-to-back games after beginning the year 0-2. Last week, the Rustlers outlasted Bakersfield College 13-11 on a fourth quarter touchdown run. GWC also kept the Renegades out of the end zone, allowing three field goals instead.

The Cougars are 4-0 for the first time since 2015 and the the eighth time since COC reinstated its football program in 1998.

COC is currently the No. 4 ranked team in the state according to both the California Community College Sports Information Association (CCCSIA) Poll and JC Athletic Bureau Head Coaches Poll.

The Cougars also own the second longest win streak in the state at nine games, dating back to the 2017 season. Fullerton College leads the state with 22 straight victories.

Golden West is visiting Cougar Stadium for the first time since the 2012 season opener. In that contest the Rustlers pulled out a 25-19 overtime victory. Canyons then traveled to Golden West for week one of the 2013 campaign and again fell in overtime, this time by a 27-21 final score.

This week all students/staff from Santa Clarita Valley area schools — Acton/Agua Dulce Unified, Castaic Union, Newhall, Saugus Union, Sulphur Springs and William S. Hart Union High School District, and all private and charter schools — are invited to attend Saturday's game free of charge (with valid I.D.).

General admission tickets to all Cougar football games are $10. Kids 10 and under are free.
