College of the Canyons remains one of the top tanked teams in the state after a convincing victory over Riverside City College in week five that has helped the Cougars hold on to its No. 4 spot in both statewide polls.
Canyons (5-0) is currently ranked No. 4 in the most recent California Community College Sports Information Association (CCCSIA) poll released on Oct. 5. The Cougars are also No. 4 in the statewide JC Athletic Bureau Coaches Poll.
COC slots behind poll leaders College of San Mateo, No. 2 City College of San Francisco and conference rival No. 3 Ventura College.
The most recent CCCSIA and JC Athletic Bureau Coaches Poll results can be found here.
No. 8 Bakersfield College and No. 15 Allan Hancock College join Canyons and Ventura as the four state ranked teams from the Southern California Football Association (SCFA) National Division, Northern League. East L.A. College, the fifth member of the Northern League, was not included in the most recent poll, but held a statewide ranking as recently as Sept. 27.
The Cougars are in the midst of a week six bye after defeating visiting Riverside City College 41-24 last Saturday.
Canyons has now defeated three straight state ranked opponents in Fullerton College, Palomar College and RCC.
The victory improved COC to 5-0 for the first time since 2018 and the third time under head coach Ted Iacenda (2015, 2018, 2021).
The Cougars are slated to return to action on Saturday, Oct. 16, when conference play begins with a road trip to No. 8 Bakersfield. That game is scheduled for a 6 p.m. kickoff.
