LANCASTER, Calif. – Sophomore guard David Horst had 26 points to lead all scorers, but it was not enough to get the College of the Canyons men's basketball team past San Bernardino Valley College, as the Cougars dropped a 77-62 decision in the championship game of the Gregg Anderson Memorial Tournament.
After leading 36-27 after the a back and forth first half, San Bernardino built as large as a 17-point lead that the Cougars had problems chipping into. The Cougars, coming off a stellar shooting night the day before, was held to 35 percent (22-62) from the field.
Horst had a career-high 26 points to go with his four rebounds. Ilya Ilyayev turned in his second double-double of the season with 18 points and 11 rebounds.
The Cougars will return to action on Friday, Dec. 13 as they travel to El Camino College for a 5 p.m. match up.
