IRVINE, Calif. — The College of the Canyons men's basketball team advanced to the final round of the Irvine Valley College (IVC) Classic tournament only to lose to host IVC in a 72-64 overtime thriller.
The loss came despite a 19-point performance by COC guard Coley Apsay, who was relentless in getting to the free throw line 14 times in the contest.
In total, the Cougars saw four of their five starters score in double figures – a welcome sign for a team that's struggled to shoot at a high percentage this season.
Forward Tullio Parry finished with 11 points and three rebounds, while Brenden Otero also chipped in 11 points to go with two blocks.
IVC had a 16-7 edge in bench scoring, and was led by forward Chris Porter who contributed 18 points, 11 rebounds and three assists. Laser teammate Andrew Bastien contributed a 19-point, 11-rebound double-double of his own for Irvine Valley.
Next up for COC (3-2) is a showdown with host Mt. SAC at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 4.
