COC Men’s Basketball Players Commit to Four-Year Schools
Five members of the College of the Canyons men's basketball team have committed to four-year institutions, as sophomores Coley Apsay, Brodric Smith, Ricardo Greaves, Tullio Parry and Riley Honaker will all continue their playing careers at four-year schools in the fall.
Apsay will head north after signing a National Letters of Intent with San Francisco State University and Honaker has committed to attend Chico State University. Both schools compete at the NCAA Division II level.
The other four Cougars all signed with NAIA schools. Smith will play at Fisher College in Boston; Greaves heads to the University of Mobile in Prichard, Alabama; and Parry heads to Tabor College in Hillsboro, Kansas.
A sixth player, Brenden Otero, is still weighing his options and is expected to decide where his next stop will be in the coming days.
"I am so proud of the fact that all six of these student-athletes will be able to continue their careers at great programs at the D-II and NAIA level," said COC men's basketball head coach Howard Fisher.
Apsay and Parry both earned First Team All-Western State Conference (WSC), South Division honors this past season.
Apsay led the team in both minutes played and scoring, averaging 17 points per game in 2014-15. He also finished the season ranked third in the conference in assists at 4.4 per contest.
Parry was second on the team in scoring, averaging 11.6 points and 6.6 rebounds per game.
Greaves, a WSC Honorable Mention honoree, averaged 8.6 points and 4.8 rebounds per game and tallied a team-high 39 blocks.
Smith appeared in 27 games for the Cougars, averaging 4.5 points per game and shooting 35.7 percent from behind the three-point line.
Honaker also provided Coach Fisher with solid minutes, averaging 2.5 points and 2.5 assists per game while coming off the bench.
The COC men's basketball team finished the 2014-2015 season with a 15-13 record, with a 7-7 conference mark to earn an at-large bid into the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) Southern California Regional Playoffs.
