Cougars Seize 76-55 Second Round Tourney Win vs. Cuyamaca College
Canyons had five players score in double digits vs. Cuyamaca, including freshman Jason Horosny who led all scorers with 24 points.
The College of the Canyons men's basketball team found the win column during round two action of the Eighth Annual 'Clash at Canyons' tourney on Sunday, with the Cougars able to secure a solid 76-55 win over Cuyamaca College.
The Cougars (1-1) controlled the contest from the early going, eventually taking a seven-point lead into the locker room at halftime.
COC freshman forward Jason Horosny led all scorers for the second straight game with 24 points, while shooting 11-of-14 from the field.
After a weekend which included a 17-point performance in the Cougars's season opener vs. Oxnard on Friday, Horosny was named to the 'Clash at Canyons' All-Tournament Team.
Canyons would have five players score in double digits vs. Cuyamaca, including forward Tikko Moore (14 points), guard Alex Sanchez (13 points), Nwaba (10 points) and guard Tyler Hooks (10 points).
Nwaba would also lead the Cougars with eight rebounds, while Hooks turned in eight assists and came away with three steals.
As a team, Canyons shot 49.1 percent (28-of-57) from the field and 33.3 percent from behind the arc.
The Cougars also outrebounded Cuyamaca 36-23 in the contest.
Canyons will next participate in the San Juan Hills Toyota Classis hosted by Irvine Valley College Nov. 19-21. The Cougars are slated to face Imperial Valley College in opening round action at 4 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 19.
