Despite a 26-point effort from sophomore Victor Nwaba, the College of the Canyons men's basketball team lost 78-65 to visiting L.A. Valley College on Saturday night.
Canyons (5-13, 0-6) played tough, but early foul trouble and a scoring drought in the first half were too much to overcome for the injury-ridden Cougars.
Nwaba scored a game-high 26 points, and also added five rebounds, two assists and two blocks.
COC sophomore guard Jalen Ewell added 12 points and seven rebounds.
Freshman guard Alex Sanchez contributed with nine points, three rebounds, two assists and two steals.
Freshman James Chevious also added eight points and a pair of assists.
The Cougars will next face No. 17 ranked Antelope Valley (17-4, 3-3) at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 27.
