Cougars Win Third Straight with 96-82 Victory Over L.A. Harbor

Behind a three-point shooting barrage, host College of the Canyons rallied from a nine-point halftime deficit to defeat the visiting Seahawks of Los Angeles Harbor College 96-82 on Saturday evening in the Cougar Cage.

COC sophomore point guard Jacob Lilley filled up the stat sheet for the Cougars (9-10) with 24 points, five rebounds and five assists. He connected on five of his six triples in the second half. The Cougars as a team made a season-high 14 three-point baskets on the evening.

Robert Moss also had a strong game for the Cougars, pouring in 16 points (four triples) to go along with 11 rebounds and five assists.

The undersized Seahawks (10-8) jumped out to an early 21-13 lead, using a strong, trapping defense that forced the Cougars out of their comfort zone. Midway through the first half, Moss connected on three straight treys to give the Cougars a brief lead.

However, L.A. Harbor had the answer behind strong play from Joel Anderson who finished the first half with 23 points, including four shots from behind the arc. The visitors entered intermission up 51-42.

The second half was a different story for the Cougars as they came out hot from the whistle. Moss and Lilley connected on back-to-back threes to cut the lead to two, then Lilley and Jeremy Hwang repeated the feat to give the Cougars their first lead of the second half.

It was a lead they would never relinquish as a short jumper from Moss extended the lead to 76-61. The Seahawks pulled to within six with just over a minute to go, but a layup from Michael Kalu sealed the victory for the Cougars.

Anderson finished the night with 32 points, but was hounded on defense by Samuel Robert and Etienne Robert in the second half. Quincy Pinkard chipped in 24 points and five steals for the Seahawks.

The Cougars return to the court on Saturday, Jan. 20, when they open conference play on the road at Pierce College.
