While the College of the Canyons 2020-21 men's basketball program is off, the nationwide Coaches vs. Cancer Suits And Sneakers T-shirt Challenge is still on, with sales in support of the American Cancer Society running through Jan. 31, 2021.
The Coaches vs. Cancer program is a nationwide collaboration between the American Cancer Society and the National Association of Basketball Coaches. This initiative leverages the personal experiences, community leadership, and professional excellence of coaches nationwide to increase cancer awareness and promote healthy living through year-round awareness efforts, fundraising activities, and advocacy programs.
The annual Coaches vs. Cancer Suits And Sneakers Week is a nationwide event when basketball coaches across the country unite for a common cause – saving lives from cancer!
"This is the 12th year that the men's basketball program has partnered with the Coaches vs. Cancer program and participated in the annual Suits and Sneakers week," said Howard Fisher, COC men's basketball head coach. "Despite the many complications posed by the COVID-19 pandemic and the cancellation of our season, the Cougar family still wanted to be a part of this very important program."
This 2021 Suits And Sneakers week will run Jan. 25-31, with coaches and their staff across the nation wearing sneakers with their suits during games to raise awareness.
New this year will also be the first ever Suits And Sneakers T-shirt Challenge, with basketball coaches across the nation asking their fans and supporters to get involved in the fight against cancer by purchasing a specially designed Suits And Sneakers t-shirt.
The 'Coach Fisher Gold' version of the shirt is available here.
Funds raised through the T-shirt sales will go to the American Cancer Society in support of childhood cancer awareness through the American Cancer Society's Gold Together campaign, which raises funds to support childhood cancer research, services and awareness, and cancer prevention efforts targeting children.
