Canyons Wins Again, Cheng Shoots a 66 at Alisal Ranch
COC freshman Matt Cheng posted a tournament-best score of 66 to lead the way.
The College of the Canyons men's golf team has won back-to-back matches to begin the season, after the Cougars had two players shoot under par during Western State Conference (WSC) Tourney No. 2 at Alisal Ranch Golf Club in Solvang, CA.
Led by freshman Matt Cheng's tournament-best score of 66, Canyons posted a five-man score of 363 during a warm day on the links.
That mark was good enough to best event host Santa Barbara City College (376).
Ventura College finished in third place after a card-off with Citrus College broke the tie at 381 apiece.
Canyons freshman Jaeyeol Kim was second for the Cougars after carding a 71.
Will Barnett and Austin Dobrescu both shot a 74, and Ricardo Torress finished his day at 78 to round out the Canyons top five.
COC sophomore Sebastian Rulis had is score of 89 scratched.
Rounding out the tournament field was fifth place Antelope Valley College(405), sixth place Allan Hancock College (411), seventh place Glendale College (418) and eighth place Bakersfield College (480).
Canyons will return to action on Monday, Feb. 22, for WSC Tournament No. 3 being hosted by Bakersfield College at Stockdale Country Club in Bakersfield.
