Canyons Finished Second at CCCAA State Championships; Campbell Wins Individual Title
Campbellās individual state championship is the second in program history, following in the footsteps of former COC golfer Sidney Wolf who accomplished the same feat in 2014.
The College of the Canyons men's golf team finished second at the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) State Championships, after carding a five-man, 36-hole team score of 751 at Desert Island Golf and Country Club in Rancho Mirage.
The Cougars finish six strokes behind state champion Reedley College at 745. College of the Desert placed third with a score of 754.
After a slow start, Canyons, which had previously won two of the past three state championships, roared back in the afternoon round but ultimately fell just short of another state title.
Ben Campbell shot identical rounds of 71 to earn individual medalist honors with a 2-under-par total of 142.

Will Barnett, the 2016 Western State Conference Player of the Year, added twin rounds of 73 for the Cougars to earn All-State team honors.
Jason McGuinness finished at 155 (80-75), Jaeyeol Kim shot a 157 (76-81), while Cammy Boomer (84-74) and Matt Cheng (78-80) both carded a 158 for Canyons.
