BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — College of the Canyons freshman Corey Haase shot a round of 74 at Rio Bravo Country Club as the Cougars claimed top billing at Western State Conference (WSC) event No. 2 hosted by Bakersfield College on Monday.
Haase's round of 74 tied for second place on the day to lead Canyons, which featured all five scoring players with rounds in the 70s. Elliott Bourke of Allan Hancock College finished his day at 71 to be named the event medalist.
Jones Comerford was next in the clubhouse for COC with a score of 75.
Clemente Yanes shot a round of 80, but did not factor into the final scoring.
The first place finish puts Canyons back in the win column after settling for third at last week's conference event at Valencia Country Club.
The Cougars also previously won the 14-team Pt. Conception Open at La Purisima Golf Course back in the season-opener on Jan 28-29.
Of the five Cougars who have played in both conference events Haase posted the most dramatic one-week improvement, shaving 10 strokes off his mark from a week ago.
Comerford managed to reduce his score by four strokes, while Lindgren cut his round by three swings.
Canyons will continue its conference schedule at WSC No. 3 hosted by Santa Barbara City College on Monday, Feb. 19. Tee off is scheduled for 10:30 a.m.
