Third Place Cougars Finish Six Shots Back
By Jesse Muñoz/COC Sports Information Director
SOLVANG, Calif. — The Cougars played to a third place team finish and freshman Tom Sims took third in the individual standings at the Western State Conference (WSC) event hosted by Santa Barbara City College at Alisal Ranch Golf Course.
The result came during a windy day on the links, which had also been battered with rain in the days prior to Monday's tourney. Ventura College (392) won the event followed by second place SBCC (395) and Canyons (398) in third.
Sims was the top finisher for Canyons which placed second at the first WSC event of the season a week ago in Bakersfield. His round of 77 tied with Brant Schenk of SBCC for third in the field of 48 golfers representing nine schools.
Anguerrand Voisin was next for COC with a score of 79. Jules Lavigne followed with a mark of 80.
Josh Kalweit and Maxence Herbin both carded rounds of 81 to round out the Canyons top five.
Nobuhiko Wakaari shot a round of 82, but had his score dropped and did not factor into the day's total.
COC is back on the course Monday, Feb. 25, at River Ridge Golf Course in Oxnard. Tee time is scheduled for 10 a.m.
