Wakaari Ties for Medalist, Cougars Finish Fourth at SoCal Preview

CHINO HILLS, Calif. — Nobuhiko Wakaari continued his marvelous run through the 2019 season with a four-under round of 68 to tie for medalist honors at the Southern California Regional Preview played at Los Serranos Country Club on Monday.

Canyons finished fourth in the field of 16 teams with a five-man score of 369. That matched the total turned in by third place Santa Barbara City College, but the Vaqueros' had a sixth-man score that was one stroke better than COC.

Orange Coast College (357) won the event and Mt. San Antonio College (367) was runner up. Palomar College (371) was fifth overall. 

Wakaari's score of 68 tied with Connor O'Hern at Orange Coast College. The COC freshman has now carded under-par scores in the last three events dating back to March 18.

James Wilkes remained in the Cougars' lineup for back-to-back events and finished second on the team with a score of 73. Matt Mansholt and Jules Lavigne were next at 75.

Anguerrand Voisin was the last to score for COC with his round of 78. While not included in the final team score, Tom Sims shot an 80 in the No. 6 spot. 

The Cougars return to conference play on Monday, April 15 at WSC No. 8 at San Dimas Canyon Golf Course.

Canyons continues to hold first place in the WSC standings with a conference record of 53-3.
