Canyons Men's Golf Finishes Runner-Up at WSC Tourney

VENTURA — College of the Canyons finished runner-up at a conference event for the first time this season at the Western State Conference (WSC) tournament hosted by COC at Olivas Links golf course on Monday, finishing two strokes behind Ventura College in the team standings.
Ventura finished at 390 with Canyons just behind at 392. Fighting foggy conditions on the course, the first five schools all finished within two strokes of each other with Ventura and Canyons followed by Santa Barbara City College (394), Citrus (396), Glendale (398) and Bakersfield (409), ahead of Allan Hancock (415) and Antelope Valley College (443).
COC Sophomore Kieran Bye finished with the lowest round at 74, tying with Ventura's AJ Ryland for second place in the individual standings.
Paul Grimonpon was a couple strokes behind at 76, good for fourth place. He was followed by Xander Artois in a tie for the sixth spot with a round of 77, his best on the season.
In a tied 26th position, Dom De Luca worked for a round of 81 while Alexander Moores round of 84 brought him in tied for the 34th spot.
Though his score was dropped from the final tally, Ben Stewart finished a stroke behind Moores for a tied 36th place.
The Cougars will tee off next Monday, April 17 at 11:30 a.m. at Sandpiper Golf Club, in the WSC event hosted by Santa Barbara.
