College of the Canyons sophomore forward Aaron Winsick has been named the Western State Conference (WSC), South Division co-Player of the Year with a combined eight Cougars named to the all-conference squad.
Winsick tied for the team lead with nine goals and added an assist to finish with 19 points across 19 contests.
The Saugus High School graduate finished his Cougar career by scoring six goals in the final three games, including a three-goal output vs. Bakersfield College that resulted in a 3-2 win for Canyons. He also led COC with 41 total shots, and 25 shots on goal, despite starting just seven games.
Winsick shares co-Player of the Year honors with freshman midfielder Sergio Gonzalez (seven goals and five assists) of Citrus College, the conference champion.
He is the first Cougar to be named Player of the Year since former COC student-athlete Andres Bueno earned the honor outright after the 2009 season.
Dominquez shared the team lead in goals with Winsick at nine and recorded four assists to account for the team lead with 22 points. Three of his goals went down as game winners.
Mejia and Pacheco both made their respective contributions felt on the defensive side of the ball. Mejia started in 15 games while Pacheco earned six starts and recorded an assist.
Freshman midfielders Justin Marquez and Jamie Ledezma both earned All-WSC Second Team honors, while freshman defenders Steven Bobadilla and Jesus Ocampo were both Honorable Mention selections for the Cougars.
Canyons finished the 2017 season with an overall record of 7-12-2 and conference mark of 4-4-2 to place third in the WSC, South Division. The Cougars posted a record of 4-1-1 across the final six games to head into the final game of the year with postseason aspirations.
