CYPRESS — College of the Canyons received equalizer goals from Dylan Sullivan and Guillermo Martinez to battle back in a 2-2 road draw at No. 15 Cypress College.

The Cougars fell behind in the 19th minute when Cypress midfielder Julio Perez was able to get one past Canyons keeper Julian Villafan for a 1-0 score.

In the opening minutes of the second half Sullivan made the most of his opportunity, scoring on an assist from Martinez in the 52nd minute.

Canyons limited the Chargers to just three shots on goal in the second half, this time with Cougar goalkeeper Alexander Rivas recording two saves. However, Cypress recaptured the advantage at 2-1 with a goal from Alfonso Montano in the 80th minute. Perez, who had netted the Chargers' first goal, earned an assist on the play.

COC was quick to respond, however, with Martinez able to convert on a touch from Cesar Perez in the 82nd minute that put the Cougars back in the match at 2-2.

Canyons recorded a final shot in the 87th minute, but the shot sailed wide right, and the official's final whistle blew shortly after.

The positive result for COC (2-3-3) comes on the heels of the Cougars' 2-1 victory vs. Pasadena City College last week.

Cypress (4-1-2) began the week as the No. 15 ranked team in the state according to the most recent California Community College Sports Information Association (CCCSIA) men's soccer statewide poll.

Up next, the Cougars will travel to face Santa Barbara City College at 7 p.m. on Friday.
