Bio

Lucas Bongarra begins his sixth consecutive season, and 12th year overall, as an assistant coach with the College of the Canyons men’s soccer program in 2023. 

His responsibilities with the program include conducting training sessions, video analysis, player development and game management. 

Bongarra is also an adjunct professor in the college’s Kinesiology & Physical Education department. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Physical Education from The Master’s University, along with a Master of Science in Recreation and Sport Sciences with a Concentration in Soccer Coaching from Ohio University.

Prior to arriving at Canyons, Bongarra served as an assistant coach at The Master’s University (2006-2007) and was the boys soccer head coach at Harvard-Westlake High School (2011-2016).

He is also the founder and chairman of Atletico Southern California, overseeing all aspects of the youth soccer club. 

Bongarra began playing soccer in his native Argentina with youth teams Club Atletico All Boys and Ferro Carril Oeste in Buenos Aires. 

At the collegiate level Bongarra starred for The Master’s University, helping the Mustangs win the 2001 NCCAA National Championship, while taking home MVP honors. He was also an NAIA All-American and GSAC All-Conference selection that season. 

Bongarra lives in Los Angeles and enjoys spending time with his wife, Lori, riding his bike, playing tennis and barbecuing with friends and family.
