Softball Earns First Victory of the Season Against Santa Barbara

SANTA CLARITA, Calif. – The College of the Canyons softball team beat visiting Santa Barbara City College, 6-2, on Friday afternoon at Whitten Field, for the team's first victory of the season. With the win, Canyons improved to 1-3 and snapped a three-game losing streak, while Santa Barbara dropped to 4-2 on the season.
The Cougars were led offensively by right fielder Nicole Maliniemi who went 2-of-3 with a RBI. Three other Cougars notched RBIs and hits in the win. Adrianna Correa notched a triple and Ashley Sandoval-Colon and Karlee Bickford has doubles during the game.
Danielle Estrada earned the win after giving up two runs on six hits. Morgan Simmons came in for two innings of scoreless relief and gave up two hits.
The Cougars will travel to Moorpark College on Thursday, Feb. 20 for a 2:30 p.m. game.
