SANTA CLARITA, Calif. – College of the Canyons softball team dropped a 10-2 mercy rule decision on Saturday afternoon against No. 9 Mt. San Antonio College at Whitten Field. With the loss, COC drops to 4-7, while Mt. SAC improved to 15-3.

Mt. SAC and Canyons started out with an even 1-1 score after the first inning, which saw Canyons' catcher Adrianna Correa double to center and allowing Alija Ramirez to cross the plate.

After tying up the score, Canyons lost control of the game, allowing the Mounties to load the bases and saw five runners score in the top of the second. Three innings later, the Mounties turned in two more runs to take a 10-1 lead.

The Cougars cut into the Mounties lead, 6-2, in the top of the fifth inning. With three outs, Ramirez blasted a double to center field, followed by outfielder Mariah Sandoval who turned in a RBI single to center that brought Ramirez in to score. Mt. SAC's defense held off catcher Adrianna Correa who grounded out to the short stop.

Five different Cougars collected COC's five hits in the loss and Ashley Sandoval-Colon and Adrianna Correa tallied RBIs. Pitcher Morgan Simmons (1-4) was tabbed with the loss. She gave up 12 hits, six earned runs in five innings of work.

The Cougars will return to action on Tuesday, March 11 for a double header at 1 p.m. against LA Mission.
