Softball Falls In Ninth Inning

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – The College of the Canyons softball team gave up two innings in the ninth inning to Riverside City College to allow the Tigers to win 6-5 on Friday afternoon at Evans Park in a non-conference match up. The Cougars fell to 12-11 with the loss, while Riverside improved to 21-7.
The Cougars held a 5-4 lead going into the ninth inning, but a Canyons' error brought in the Tiger's tying run. One batter later, Riverside hit a single up the middle for the go-ahead run.
Left fielder Ashley Sandoval-Colon led the team going 3-of-4 with a home run and two RBIs. Nicole Maliniemi, Alija Ramirez and Kaitlyn Shreves had two hits apiece.
Morgan Simmons (7-6) tossed 8.2 innings in the loss and gave up three runs on 10 hits.
