SYLMAR, Calif. β The No. 7 state ranked College of the Canyons softball team edged out a 5-3 victory over L.A. Mission College on Tuesday to win the front end of a doubleheader 5-3 β good for the team's fourth straight victory.
The Cougars have now won 10 of their last 11 games and are sitting atop the Western State Conference (WSC), Blue Division standings.

Anderson's home runs were her sixth and seventh of the season, which ties her for the lead in the WSC.
COC held onto its advantage through six innings, but was forced to withstand a final surge from the L.A. Mission Eagles.
Starting pitcher Ashley Russo started to show signs of wear after six and a third innings. On the day, Russo allowed three earned runs β all in the bottom of the seventh inning βon seven hits and five walks.
Kaitlyn Reed then entered the game to replace Russo and recorded the final two outs to secure the 5-3 victory.
