No. 6 Canyons Softball Set to Host No. 11 Cerritos in CCCAA Regional Playoffs
The Cougars (28-10-1, 15-6) finished the regular season as the No. 10 ranked team in the state.
The No. 6 seed College of the Canyons softball team will host No. 11 Cerritos College in the first round of the CCCAA Southern California Regional Playoffs, beginning Saturday, May 2, at Ray Whitten Field.
Canyons (28-10-1, 15-6) finished the regular season as the No. 10 ranked team in the state — and No. 5 in SoCal – according to the most recent California Community College Baseball Coaches Association (CCCBCA) poll, released April 22.
The Cougars were the second place team in the WSC, Blue Division, finishing three games behind conference champs Citrus College.
COC and Antelope Valley College finished the season with identical 15-6 conference records, however, the Cougars won the season series 2-1.
Cerritos (23-17) took third place in the South Coast Conference. The Falcons experienced an up-and-down April, winning five straight games to start the month before losing five of its final six games.
COC previously defeated Cerritos 4-3 on Feb. 20, behind an eighth inning home run from freshman Emily Smith.
The two teams will now square off in a best-of-three series beginning at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
Game 2 will begin at noon on Sunday. If necessary, a third and final game will be played beginning at approximately 2 p.m. on Sunday.
