No. 10 Canyons Downs No. 7 Saddleback in 2-0 Victory

The No. 10 College of the Canyons softball team toppled another ranked opponent on Monday, with the Cougars tagging a 2-0 loss on No. 7 Saddleback College at Ray Whitten Field on Monday.
Canyons (5-2) received a another strong pitching performance from sophomore right-hander Alexis Ramirez who improved to 4-0 on the year after shutting down the Gauchos through six innings of work.
Ramirez, who threw a no-hitter vs. El Camino on Friday, gave up just two hits vs. Saddleback (4-4). The Gauchos did not have a runner reach base until the fifth inning.
In the bottom half of the fourth, COC right fielder Jennifer Metcalf led things off with a single before freshman Sarah Wilson doubled her home on a hit-and-run play put on by head coach John Wissmath.
Two batters latter freshman Gabrielle Padilla doubled home Wilson to make a 2-0 ballgame, giving Canyons all the runs it would need.
Metcalf finished 1-for-2 with a walk, run scored and stolen base. Wilson was 2-for-3 on the day, while Padilla was 1-for-3.
Sophomore Ashley Russo pitched the seventh frame for the Cougars, fanning two batters on her way to recording the save.
Canyons will next travel to face Santa Barbara City College in a double-header on Friday, Feb. 19. Games are scheduled for 1 and 3 p.m.
