No. 9 Canyons Set to Square Off with No. 8 Southwestern in CCCAA SoCal Regionals
The Cougars have now advanced to the postseason in six straight seasons under COC head coach John Wissmath.
No. 9 seed College of the Canyons will travel to face No. 8 Southwestern College in a best-of-three series during the opening round of the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) Southern California Regional Playoffs May 5-6.
Canyons (28-11-1, 13-5) finished the regular season second in the Western State Conference (WSC), East Division. COC batted .397 through the regular season while smacking 36 home runs to rank fourth in the state.

Southwestern (27-10, 13-3) finished second in the Pacific Coast Conference. The Jaguars posted a .340 team batting average with 11 home runs on the year. Head coach Yasmin Mossadeghi's team went 13-3 on its home field this season.
COC and Southwestern met at Whitten Field early on in the regular season with the Jags able to escape as 8-7 winners, after the Cougars rallied to score four runs in the bottom of the seventh.
Canyons and Southwestern will begin its series at 2 p.m. Friday, May 5 in Chula Vista. Action will resume the following day at 12 p.m. with a potential third and final game to follow approximately 30 minutes after.
Entry to CCCAA playoff contests is $12 for general admission and $8 for students and staff with ID, senior citizens and children under 12 years old.
