College of the Canyons churned out 15 runs, including 11 in the opening frame, to win its first Western State Conference (WSC) contest of the season 15-4 in five innings over visiting Glendale College on Wednesday.
Canyons (5-3, 1-1) plated the 11 runs on eight hits and two errors. Sophomore Micayla Aguilar had two of her game-high three RBIs in the opening frame. She also scored two runs and collected a pair of doubles in the game.
Freshman Camryn Webb finished 3-for-3 with a double and three RBIs and Rena Edwards was 2-for-3 with three runs and two RBIs.
While Edwards's three runs were a game high, every member of the Cougar starting lineup scored a run. Seven different players recorded RBIs.
Glendale (1-7, 0-1) scored runs in the first two innings, then added two more in top of the fourth, but COC's early lead proved insurmountable.
Megan Wilson started the game but was pulled after just one inning in order to save her arm for Thursday's scheduled game at L.A. Valley College.
Kaitlyn Post came on in relief and eventually picked up the win after three innings of work. She allowed two runs on five hits, struck out three batters and issued one walk. Sunneraye Vasquez also pitched an inning of relief and was charged with two runs.
