Cougars Score Sweep vs. Visiting Cerritos
The Lady Cougars outscored Cerritos 17-2 across 12 innings of play led by several standout performances.

SANTA CLARITA — College of the Canyons claimed another pair of victories on Friday, this time taking two from visiting Cerritos College with the Lady Cougars pouncing on their opponent to the tune of 17 runs across 12 innings of play.
Canyons improved to 15-4 overall and remains 1-0 vs. Western State Conference (WSC), South Division opponents. Cerritos dropped to 7-9 on the season and maintained its 3-6 mark vs. conference opponents.
The Lady Cougars struggled to get anything going in the first outing before using a three-run sixth inning to take the eventual 3-2 victory. COC starter Rebecca Rodarte (6-1) earned the win and pitched well throughout, with the only damage coming in the form of a pair of unearned runs in the second inning. She scattered seven hits and issued five walks, while striking out three. Jenna Rorick pitched a scoreless seventh inning to pick up the save.
Makayla Lopez put Canyons on the board with an RBI double in the sixth that scored Julia Fuentes. Rodarte then helped her own cause with a two-run double that plated Lopez and Ashlynn Heck.
COC needed just five innings to reach victory in the second game, with the Lady Cougars scoring 14 unanswered runs in the 14-0 shutout victory. This time it was Rorick (8-3) tossing a one-hitter with two strikeouts and four walks.
Rorick left the yard with a home run and finished the game 2-for-3 at the plate with a walk and three RBIs. Kaitlyn Post also homered in the game, going 2-for-2 in the process. Fuentes finished with three RBIs with Heck and Nataly Miranda each knocking in two runs apiece.
Canyons has now won six of its last seven contests.
Top Performers
Jenna Rorick pitched six scoreless innings, collecting a win and a save with three strikeouts. At the plate she finished 2-for-3 with a walk, two runs and three RBIs.
Rebecca Rodarte pitched six innings with no earned runs and three strikeouts, while going 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs.
Julia Fuentes ended the a combined day 2-for-4 with a walk, sac-fly, three runs and three RBIs.
Ashlyn Heck totaled three runs and two RBIs on a 3-for-6 day that also included a pair of doubles.

The Lady Cougars are scheduled to continue conference competition with a road game at West L.A. College (0-1) on Tuesday, March 10 followed by a trip to face Bakersfield College (9-9, 1-0) on Thursday. Both contests are scheduled for a 2:30 p.m. first pitch. Canyons is then scheduled to host Santiago Canyon College (13-7, 5-1) for a home doubleheader on Saturday, March 14 with games at 12 and 2 p.m. With rain expected in the forecast, all games will be weather permitting.
