Lady Cougars Softball Ranked No. 15 in 3CFCA Statewide Poll
College of the Canyons softball continues to be ranked among the state's best programs, this week checking in at the No. 15 spot in the California Community College Fastpitch Coaches Association (3CFCA) poll released Feb. 15.
Canyons (6-1, 1-0) is also ranked No. 9 in Southern California according to the same poll.
Sierra College (12-0), Palomar College (6-0), Mt. San Antonio (6-2), San Mateo (10-2) and Monterey Peninsula hold the top five spots in the statewide poll. Full results are available here.
The Lady Cougars had been No. 14 in the state and No. 8 in the region in the previous week's rankings but dropped a spot despite remaining unbeaten during that span.
COC is one of three teams from the Western State Conference to be included in the statewide rankings alongside No. 11 Ventura College (8-2) and No. 8 Bakersfield (5-5). The Cougars and Renegades both hail from the WSC, East Division and will meet twice this season, the first date coming Feb. 28.
Canyons has won five straight, most recently taking a 9-8 extra-inning comeback bid vs. L.A. Mission College in the WSC, East Division opener on Tuesday.
Previous to that, the Cougars swept doubleheaders at Riverside City College and vs. Moorpark College. COC also knocked off Folsom Lake College in its season opener. COC's lone loss came on the road at Mt. SAC on Jan. 31.
Canyons is back on the road for a conference game at Citrus College on Thursday, Feb. 16. First pitch is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
