Phillip Wong Places Third at WSC Pentathlon
College of the Canyons swimmer Phillip Wong finished in third place at the Western State Conference Pentathlon at Ventura College on Saturday morning.
VENTURA, Calif. – College of the Canyons swimmer Phillip Wong finished in third place at the Western State Conference Pentathlon at Ventura College on Saturday morning.
Wong, who was accompanied by four other COC swimmers, was Canyons' top finisher with a time of 4:46.15. Bakersfield College's Andrew Hargis won the event in 4:30.79 and Cuesta College's Geroran Meendereing came in second with a time of 4:42.90.
Wong turned in third-place finish in the 100-yard fly in 53.71, following ninth-place in the 100-yard backstroke in 1:00.77. He came in fourth in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:04.25), 10th in the 100-yard freestyle (50.33) and fourth in the 100-yard IM (57.08).
Damien Padilla also swam for the Cougars, but was disqualified in four events.
On the women's side, Monica Hamilton came in 43rd place with a time of 6:32.87 and Johannah Gonzalez turned in a 6:40.41, good for 51st place.
Brandi Tyson was disqualified in the 100-yard freestyle and did not post a scoring time.
The COC divers will take the pool on Friday, Feb. 22 as they travel to their first meet at LA Pierce College.
