Canyons Swim Squads Compete at Mt. SAC Invitational

The College of the Canyons swim & dive program competed at the annual Mt. SAC Invitational held Feb. 23-25 in Walnut. The men's team tied for sixth place in the field of eight, while the women's team was 15th among the 21 competing schools.

COC freshman Jessie Kim led the men's team with a first place time of 25.18 in the 50-yard backstroke.

Kim also took second in the 100-yard backstroke at 53.92, before finishing fourth in the 100-yard butterfly at 54.48. 

The 50-yard medley relay team of Kim, Tyler Tran, William Karren and Kaikae Roe finished fourth at a pace of 1:41.80.

The combination of Karren, Kim, Roe and Tran were also successful in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:22.57 to take fourth.

Kim, Tran, Karren and Roe were else fifth in the 400-yard medley relay at 3:49.71

Karren was fifth in the 50-yard butterfly at a time of 25.13 and Tran was fourth in the 50-yard freestyle event after being clocked at 22.39.

COC freshman Jennifer Yamauchi placed second at a pace of 29.73 in the 50-yard backstroke and was the best finish of the day for the women's team.

Yamauchi went on to take third in the 100-yard backstroke at 1:03.73 and capped the meet with a fourth-place result in the 200-yard version of the event.

Antoinette Peterson was eighth in the 50-yard butterfly at 29.49. Brooke Coffey was 11th in the 50-yard backstroke at 31.78 and 12th in the 100-yard individual medley at 1:10.28.

The Cougars will host the first WSC meet of the season on Saturday, at the Santa Clarita Aquatic Center. Events will begin at 10 a.m.
