Canyons Teams Take Fifth at WSC Pentathlon Meet

College of the Canyons swim & dive opened its season and swam to a combined fifth place finish at the annual Western State Conference (WSC) Pentathlon hosted by Ventura College.
The Cougars recorded 134 event points to trail fourth place Santa Barbara City College (157), Santa Monica College (159), Bakersfield College (322) and meet champion Cuesta College (466).
L.A. Valley College (109), Ventura College (107), Citrus College (68) and Allan Hancock College (28) rounded out the field.
The meet consisted of five events (100y freestyle, 100y backstroke, 100y breaststroke, 100y butterfly, 100y individual medley) for both the men's and women's fields.
COC sophomore Jennifer Yamauchi was the lone event winner for the Cougars, taking first place in the 100y backstroke at a time of 1:03.07.
Yamauchi had a big day, placing 10th in both the 100y butterfly (1:06.26) and 100y IM (1:09.85) events. She was also 15th in the 100y freestyle (1:00.53) and 100y breaststroke (1:20.26).
Miguel Martinez' time of 55:31 was good for second place in the 100y butterfly, and was the top individual result for the men's team. Martinez also took fourth in the 100y breaststroke with a time of 1:05.44.
Rowdy Feather placed third in the 100y backstroke at 57.76, and finished his day with a fifth-place mark of 1:00.14 in the 100y IM.

The Cougars will next hit the deck at the 33rd Annual Mt. SAC Invite on Feb. 23-24.
