Just one week removed from its first Western State Conference (WSC) meet victory, College of the Canyons competed at the 19th Annual Pasadena City College Invitational.

The annual meet routinely attracts a collection of the best swim & dive programs in the state and this year's event was no different with several recent state champion programs in the mix.

COC's men's team placed 10th in the field of 15 men's programs despite having just two individual swimmers score points. The Canyons' women's program did not factor into the team scoring for this event.

Canyons sophomore Rowdy Feather netted 14 event points for the Cougars. Feather placed 11th in both the 200-yard freestyle (1:50.45) and 100-yard backstroke (56.64). He was also 15th in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:03.89).

COC freshman Emilio Santoyo also scored in two events, taking eighth in the 200-yard backstroke (2:06.48) to represent the Cougars' top finish. He was also 15th in the 100-yard backstroke at 58.12.

The Cougars' men's relay teams also fared well, with the combination of Kenny Payne, Miguel Martinez, Santoyo and Feather placing sixth in the 800-yard freestyle relay.

Later it was the 400-yard medley relay of Feather, Santoyo, Martinez and Werner placing 10th with a time of 3:28.60.

Canyons also placed 14th in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:33.83) and 200-yard medley relay (1:44.43) events.

Both the COC men's and women's teams will next compete at the WSC Championships April 18-20 at the Santa Clarita Aquatic Center. Preliminary events are scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. each day with finals beginning at 4 p.m.
