Cougars Open Season at 2020 Larry Barrette Invitational
COC freshman Chloe Riddle turned in the top performance for the Cougars by winning the 200-yard freestyle event at a time of 2:01.71

College of the Canyons got its first look at its conference opposition at the 2020 Larry Barrette Invitational on Friday, with the event serving as this season's Western State Conference (WSC) Preview Meet.
Canyons only entered a combined eight swimmers in the season-opening event which was hosted by Ventura College. The COC men's team placed eighth while the women's team was 10th.
Canyons freshman Chloe Riddle turned in the top performance of the day for the Cougars by winning the 200-yard freestyle event. Her time of 2:01.71 topped the pace of second place finisher Daran Towns of Bakersfield (2:03.03).
Freshman Mikaela Martinez turned in a seventh-place time of 2:32.93 in the 200-yard individual medley.
COC freshman Kellen Bulmer's tenth-place finish in the in the 50-yard freestyle came at a time of 24 seconds flat and represented the top result for the men's team.
Cuesta College (466) won the men's meet followed by host Ventura (426) and Bakersfield College (350) in the top three spots.
Santa Barbara City College (329) took first place in the women's standings followed by Cuesta (272) an Bakersfield (244).

Canyons is back in action Friday, Feb. 14, at WSC meet No. 1 at the Cougar Natatorium. Events are scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
