Canyons Swim Competes at WSC Meet No. 2

SAN LUIS OBISPO – College of the Canyons competed at the second Western State Conference (WSC) meet of the 2022 season on Saturday at Cuesta College.

The Cougars finished the event in ninth place with 60 event points earned by the team's six entrants. Cuesta (428) won the meet followed by Allan Hancock (258) and Santa Monica College (256). 

COC freshman Bence Endresz was the top individual scorer for the Cougars with 16 points, competing in three different freestyle events. Endresz took 11th in both the 50-yard freestyle (24.23) and 100-yard (52.57) freestyle, taking six points in each event. 

Racing in two solo events, Cody Faust captured all 12 of his points in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:29.67), taking seventh place. Martin Wise took the 10th spot (2:31.75) in the same event, claiming seven points. 

Wise also racked an additional three points after competing in the 50-yard freestyle (25.06) and placing 14th in the field of 32 swimmers.  

Canyons did the bulk of its scoring with an eighth-place finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay, as the team of Bryan Orozco, Gabriel Flores, Evan Young and Faust clocked a time of 3:55.57 to tack on 22 points.

Canyons will next compete at WSC Meet No. 3 at 11 a.m. Friday April 1, at Santa Monica College.

Canyons Top Performers

  • 400-yard freestyle relay – The combination of Bryan Orozco-Gonzalez, Gabriel Flores, Evan Young and Cody Faust posted a time of 3:55.57 to place eighth
  • Bence Endresz – 11th place, 50-yard freestyle (24.23); 11th place, 100-yard freestyle (52.57); 13th place, 200-yard freestyle (2:04.67)
  • Cody Faust – 7th place, 200-yard breaststroke (2:29.67)
  • Martin Wise – 10th place, 200-yard breaststroke (2:31.75); 14th place, 50-yard freestyle (25.06)
