White Brings Home Southern California Championship In Triple Jump, Fowler Comes in Fourth in 400

LANCASTER, Calif. - The College of the Canyons track and field team brought home an individual championship and a new school record at this weekend's Southern California prelims at Antelope Valley College on Saturday afternoon.

Freshman Tim White turned in a distance of 51 feet, 2 3/4 inches for a Southern California Championship in the triple jump. His jump was a little less than a foot shorter than his best mark that he earned at the Western State Conference Championships two weekends ago.

The Hart High School alumnus will compete in the state championship in event, which he will be favored to win based on his marks this season.

Joining White there will be COC freshman Anthony Fowler, who broke the school record in the 400-meter dash with a time of 47.49 seconds, while coming in fourth place. Fowler improved his Southern California prelims time by 2 1/2 seconds and ran the 21st fastest time among community college runners in the nation this year and eighth best time in the state of California.

The CCCAA Track and Field State Championship Meet takes place from May 17-18 at San Mateo College.
