Tim White Finishes In Second At Pan American Junior Championships
MEDELLIN, Colombia - College of the Canyons freshman track and field member Tim White finished in second place in the triple jump at the final day of the 17th Pan American Junior Championships, on Sunday night.
After posting a leap of 54' 1 1/4" White finished in a tie with Cuba's Lazaro Martinez-Santrayu. The two athletes were forced into a tie breaker, which was decided by the second-best jump of each athlete.
Martinez-Santrayu's second-best jump came in at 53' 9", while White turned in a 53' 5 1/2".
White's mark of 54' 1 1/4" shattered his prior school record of 53' 1" which he recorded in June at the U.S. Junior Outdoor Track and Field Championships held in Des Moines, Iowa. It was at this event that White that received an invite to compete in the Pan American Junior Championships
Team USA won the medal count with 15 gold, 16 silver and 7 bronze medals, Canada placed second with 19 total medals.
White finishes the 2013 track and field season with a conference, Southern California, State and U.S. Championship, while becoming one of the most successful student-athletes to ever compete at College of the Canyons.
The Pan American Junior Championship is held every two years to give an opportunity to the athletes from North America, South America, Central America and the Caribbean to develop their skills competing against the best athletes from the Western Hemisphere.
